About Our Program

Our psychiatric service dog program is designed to equip both dog and handler with the skills, habits, and trust necessary for a safe and effective working partnership. Each graduate team has undergone extensive training, both in controlled environments and real-world public spaces.

Key Tasks Our Teams Are Trained For:

  • Deep Pressure Therapy – Applying calm, steady pressure to the chest or lap to relieve anxiety and promote regulation.

  • Crowd Control – Creating personal space in crowded environments to reduce overstimulation.

  • Grounding Physical Comfort – Using physical contact to anchor the handler in the present moment.

  • Pattern Interruption for Harmful Behaviors – Recognizing and gently interrupting self-harming or dysregulated behaviors.

  • Health and Wellness Lifestyle Training – Encouraging a trauma-informed daily structure including exercise, nature exposure, socialization, journaling, and ongoing training.

Training & Testing Requirements

All Strong Bond psychiatric service dogs must complete the following before graduation:

  • Public Behavior Testing

    • Dogs must demonstrate calm, cooperative behavior around other dogs, strangers, and high-stimulation environments. Upon passing, dogs are then tested on advanced skills such as Crowd Control, ensuring they can maintain a safe working bubble for their handler in public settings.

  • Task Execution

    • Dogs must successfully and consistently perform trained service tasks such as:

      • Deep Pressure Therapy on cue

      • Pattern Interruption in response to specific behaviors

      • Grounding Touch as a calming measure

  • Lifestyle Integration and Handler Education

    • Handlers are expected to:

      • Establish daily routines that promote emotional resilience

      • Engage in ongoing training and relationship-building with their dog

      • Participate in physical, social, and mindfulness-based activities with their dog

      • Attend in-person training and complete practical tests with our trainers

Ongoing Support and Resources

All certified teams continue to receive support beyond graduation:

  • Lifelong Access to our online video training libraries and digital resources

  • Alumni Group Membership, which includes:

    • Monthly group hikes and community events

  • Virtual mentorship and check-ins with our head trainer, Alex Canby

  • Continued eligibility for refresher training and behavioral support

Certification Purpose

While there is no federally mandated or centralized registration system for service dogs in the United States, Strong Bond Schools LLC certifies that the individual presenting this document has completed our psychiatric service dog training program in full and meets all behavioral and task requirements for a working service animal.

We stand behind our graduates and the training they’ve completed.
